Each tooth consists of three layers:
1- Enamel: The hard, white outer part of the tooth.
2- Dentin
3- Pulp
Pulp is the living part of the tooth, where blood vessels and nerves run. If this part is exposed the life tissue inside can get hurt.
Pulp can be exposed as a result of:
1- internal caries
2- If the tooth is broken
Your dentist may suggest a root canal in this case. During which the deep pulp of a tooth is drilled out, cleaned, and filled. The technology used now (Rotary system) makes this procedure as simple as possible. After the root canal it is usually recommended to get a crown to preserve the tooth.
